Review: Starpro S90 Wrist Shielded Boxing Gloves for Training

 Veteran boxing equipment manufacturer Starpro Combat has been in the game long enough to perfect a pair of gloves; with each new offering, they keep getting better and better. Today we’re looking at their ‘S90 Wrist Shielded Boxing Gloves’ to see how they measure up to our expectations. In this boxing gloves review, we’ll be breaking down the prices, materials, and features to see whether this pair packs a punch or loses the title.

Our Verdict: 

Aesthetically, these gloves are something too look at. With a black body and white front topped with primary blue branding, these gloves have a retro vibe. The feel of the gloves themselves is smooth, glossy and heavy because of the premium cowhide that the outer body is made from.  

Functionally, the S90 worked beautifully in training. With the glove’s powerfully padded front, the impact on your hands is minimized, keeping training comfortable so that the focus is on perfecting your moves. This padding is made of injection moulded foam, which generally outperforms generic foam in terms of durability and resilience. In this case, it means that your knuckles are safe and secure when hitting that heavy bag. 

An extra-long wrist closure also sets these gloves apart. At 8cm long, your wrist is cushioned and supported to stop it moving out of place and saving you from injury. An easy Velcro wrap-around makes for easy training; while you might prefer special lace-ups for matches, these are for that daily sparring and training. 

Another pro of these gloves is definitely the mesh lining. It keeps the hands dry as promised, making it easy to keep going during training without your hands slipping in the gloves from sweat. It also makes cleaning and care easy; just hang them out to dry. 

With a total of 5 weights between 8oz and 16oz, these gloves are definitely made with diversity in mind. This covers a wide variety of fighters and needs, meaning these gloves are definitely ‘all-purpose.’ If you want more proof, the 4.4 rating these have garnered on Amazon isn’t a small feat either.
