Lace Up Boxing Glove for Professional Training and Sparring 2021 [Complete Review]

Ask most fighters, and they’ll say there’s nothing like a lace up boxing glove. These old-school closures have always been king of the ring, and for good reason: the kind of customized fit and wrist support (lace up gloves traditionally have longer wrist brackets) that you get from lace ups are impossible for anything else to mimic. However, these are usually relegated to the realm of sparring because of how difficult it can be to get them on without help. Today, we’re looking at Starpro Combat’s Pro Glove.

Price Point

At £25.99, this price is hard to beat. With popular competitors like Cleto Reyes or Casanova Boxing coming in at the £115-122 range, the Starpro Combat gloves are an inexpensive investment which don’t compromise on quality.

Materials

Genuine leather, open cell EVA foam, polymax grip bar, horse hair lining

Benefits

Part of Starpro Combat’s Premier Pro Line range for professional fighters, the Pro Glove is a multi-use glove that works for training and sparring for newcomers as well. Starpro has gone all out with the materials: featuring genuine leather and horse hair, the gloves promise classical workmanship and sturdiness to boot. Horsehair and leather also promise greater protection, so these gloves really pack a punch.

A slimmer take on the traditional glove, these also feature a longer wrist as is the case with lace ups. The bonus extra-long laces mean more customization for the perfect fit. The loops are also Starpro’s own design, with added stretch for comfort.

There’s no lack of extra features in here either: the multi-layered construction and injection-moulded foam keep your fists formed and at the ready, reducing pressure on the forearm. EVA foam is also known to disperse impact, an important feature to ensure that your hands remain protected from injury. This is backed up with Starpro’s own impact management system built into the gloves.

Wearing the Pro Glove is a comfortable experience: ventilation holes keep your hands moisture free and help maintain grip, so your hands don’t feel like balls of fire in the glove.

The size range that is provided also covers wide bases: with sizes between 10 oz and 16 oz, you have plenty of options for your needs. Aesthetically, the gloves have a classically sporty feel with a vintage vibe in a maroon and black combo or an all-black look.

Overall, these are a good looking, well-performing pair of lace up boxing gloves at a price point that you really can’t beat.
